My wife, Justine, and I began growing cannabis 11 years ago as designated producers under the former MMAR regulations set out by Health Canada for a select group of patients who had prescriptions for medical cannabis. That experience allowed us to procure a wide variety of different cannabis strains from all over the world which are now part of our inventory. That experience also allowed us to hone our craft and become high caliber producers. Highland Greenhouses Inc. is a husband and wife joint venture. We were able to construct our greenfield production facility without investors, so that our clients can rest assured that the only thing that we are focused on is producing an excellent product. Quality is our number one priority. 

We have only one Flowering Room, which puts us in a unique position to let the cannabis tell us when it is ready to be harvested. We will not force a harvest prematurely due to production schedules. We study the tricomes under a microscope daily for 6-weeks until they are perfect. 

When we first started producing cannabis under the MMAR program over a decade ago, the writing was already on the wall: cannabis legalization was coming. My wife and I bought our farm with the intent to produce cannabis for this new legal market. Like any business owner, you want your company to be financially successful, that was my initial motivation. Then a good friend of ours was diagnosed with brain cancer. Two separate neuropathologists gave our friend a year or two to live. Our friend did not want to undergo horrible chemotherapy treatment, but he had heard that cannabis oil was being used by some people to treat cancer, so he tried it. That was 8 years ago, and he is cancer free. I am not a doctor, I can't say with absolute certainty that the cannabis oil is what got rid of his cancer. But I can say this, it was like watching a miracle. I have witnessed another of our patients while he was experiencing a grand mal epileptic seizure and his wife waved a lit cannabis cigarette under his nose so that he could inhale the smoke and he snapped right out of it. She told us that that's how they treat the epilepsy. Like I said, I'm not a doctor, I can't say that it was the cannabis smoke that was stopping his seizures, but it was like watching a miracle. If my parents caught me with cannabis as a teenager, it would have been big trouble for me! Now they are using it for pain management. Our society is recognizing the benefits of cannabis and we are only beginning to scratch the surface of its potential.
